Help is at Hand

Help Is At Hand
"Help is at Hand is a UK Government flag-ship site that contains a range of online and offline resources serving the UK online centres and everyone working in community ICT".

We have managed and developed the technical infrastructure for this resource since 2001, initially on behalf of Becta and now for the Ufi.

This site is powered by MKDoc Content Management Software, which enables:

  • Flexibility: Remote administration with a dedicated security system for multiple web editors and authorised users to access sensitive data in protected areas.

  • Usability: Content can be updated easily and quickly. Navigation intuitive.

  • User Personalisation: Accounts are customised to a user's personal preferences. The software delivers email updates specific to each user's profile.

  • Interoperability: Complies with the e-gif standard to facilitate electronic data interchange in the public sector.

MKDoc helped us lead the way in accessibility and standards compliance. Help is at Hand was the first e-gif compliant web-site at Becta, which is pretty significant given our status” – Fred Garnett, Head of Community Programmes, Becta

Award : Business and Education Partnership (2002) – Sponsored by B.T. and the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.

The very successful Help is at Hand web site was relaunched in February 2005 by the Ufi.

  • Working closely with the Ufi, we developed new functionality to allow for the elegant migration of the web site's one thousand strong user base.

  • User Groups have been introduced to allow for further personalisation and appropriate delivery of web content.

  • Enhanced Intranet facilities are hidden behind the public interface ensuring that commercially sensitive information is kept secure.

“The Help is at Hand site is exemplary in its accessibility, and in its conformance to W3C standards and e-GIF, the UK Government's e-Government Interoperability Framework.” — Seb Schmoller
